Everything you need for clean email lists
Free bulk email verifier, disposable-address checker, and bounce detector — one tool, zero cost to start.
Instant Syntax Check
Catch malformed addresses before they ever hit your server — with RFC-5321 regex in microseconds. Fix syntax errors in your email list for free.
DNS MX Record Lookup
Confirm the domain has valid mail exchange servers. No MX records? Invalid email. Remove these to reduce hard bounces.
SMTP Handshake Verification
Simulate delivery with RCPT TO — the deepest check short of sending a real email. Prevent cold email bounces at their source.
Free Bulk Email List Cleaner
Upload a CSV or TXT file with thousands of emails. Celery processes them asynchronously with live progress — free b2b email list cleaner included.
Disposable Email Address Checker
Flag throwaway and catch-all domains automatically so they never pollute your audience or inflate your bounce rate.
Exportable Results
Download verified, invalid, and risky emails as separate CSV files instantly. Clean messy contact data in one click.
How free email verification works
ListEmailCheck runs three sequential checks on every email address — each one going deeper than the last. The whole process completes in under two seconds and never sends a real email to the mailbox.
Syntax Validation
The first check confirms that the email address is structured correctly according to
RFC 5321 — a local part, an @ symbol, and a valid
domain with a recognised TLD. Malformed addresses like user@,
@domain.com, or addresses with illegal characters are caught instantly without
any network call. This step alone eliminates a large proportion of typos and
copy-paste errors common in collected contact lists.
DNS MX Record Lookup
After syntax passes, we query the Domain Name System for the domain's Mail Exchange (MX) records. MX records tell the internet which mail servers handle email for a given domain. If no MX record exists, no email server is configured to receive mail — the address cannot possibly be delivered to. This check catches defunct domains, expired businesses, and domains that were set up for web hosting only, without email.
SMTP Handshake Check
The deepest check. We open a real SMTP connection to the recipient's mail server and
issue a RCPT TO command — the same step a sending
mail server would perform before delivering a message. If the server responds that the
mailbox does not exist, the address is invalid. Critically, we never complete the
transaction, so no email is sent and no inbox is touched. This catches addresses where
the domain is valid but the specific mailbox — the part before the @ — no longer exists.
Why email list hygiene matters for deliverability
Email service providers — including Mailchimp, SendGrid, HubSpot, and Klaviyo — monitor the bounce rate on every campaign you send. Once your hard bounce rate exceeds 2%, most ESPs will automatically suspend your sending account or place campaigns under manual review. A rate above 5% can result in permanent termination. These thresholds are published in each provider's sender policy documentation and are strictly enforced.
Beyond account status, excessive bounces erode your domain reputation — the score ISPs and inbox providers assign to your sending domain over time. Gmail and Outlook use this score to decide whether a message lands in the primary inbox, the promotions tab, or the spam folder. In 2024, Google introduced a mandatory 0.1% spam complaint threshold for bulk senders; exceeding it triggers automatic filtering across all Gmail inboxes. A degraded reputation can take three to six months of careful, low-volume sending to rebuild.
According to HubSpot's marketing research, email lists shrink by 22–25% each year as contacts change jobs, abandon inboxes, and switch providers. A 10,000-contact list that hasn't been verified in 12 months likely contains 2,000–2,500 addresses that will now bounce or generate complaints. Verifying before each major send — rather than relying on historical imports — is the most direct way to stay below ESP thresholds without manual auditing.
ListEmailCheck makes this easy and free. Common signs that your list needs cleaning:
- ✓ Your open rate has dropped more than 10% over the past six months
- ✓ Your hard bounce rate is above 0.5% on recent campaigns
- ✓ You imported contacts from a spreadsheet, CRM export, or purchased list
- ✓ You have not emailed part of your list in more than 90 days
- ✓ You are seeing a rise in spam complaint rates
- ✓ You are launching a cold outreach campaign on a new sending domain
Running your list through our free bulk email verifier before each send takes minutes and costs nothing on the free plan. For larger lists, our paid plans offer up to 500,000 verifications per month — still a fraction of what enterprise list-cleaning services charge.
Who uses a free email validator?
Whether you're running cold outreach, managing a newsletter, or cleaning up a CRM export, email verification protects your sender reputation and improves deliverability.
Cold Email & Outreach
A single campaign sent to an unverified list can push your domain's bounce rate above 5% — enough for Google and Outlook to start routing all your mail to spam. Verify before you send.
Newsletter & Marketing Teams
ESPs like Mailchimp suspend accounts at a 2% hard bounce rate. One stale import can trigger it. Quarterly verification keeps your sending account and sender score intact.
B2B Sales & CRM Data
Job change rates in B2B average 30% per year, meaning a prospecting list from last year is already significantly degraded. Run it through the verifier before loading into your CRM.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this email validator really free?
Yes. Our free plan includes 100 verifications per day — no credit card required. Single-email checks on the homepage are free for all visitors (up to 5/day without an account).
How do I verify an email address for free online?
Enter the address in the box above and click Verify. We run three checks — syntax validation, DNS MX record lookup, and a live SMTP handshake — and return an instant pass/fail result.
What is the difference between a syntax check and an SMTP check?
A syntax check confirms the email is formatted correctly (e.g. user@domain.com). An SMTP check goes further and simulates an actual delivery to see if the mailbox exists on the mail server — without sending any email.
Can I clean a bulk email list for free?
Yes. Create a free account (100 verifications/day) or upgrade to a paid plan to upload a CSV or TXT file and verify thousands of emails. Results are exported as separate clean, invalid, and risky CSV files.
How does email verification improve deliverability?
Removing invalid, disposable, and catch-all addresses before sending cuts hard bounces, protects your sender score, and keeps your campaigns out of spam folders.
Can I check if an email address is a disposable or throwaway address?
Yes. ListEmailCheck automatically detects disposable email address domains (like Mailinator or Guerrilla Mail) and flags them so you can remove them from your list.
